Gregg County Crime Stoppers ~ F.A.Q.

Q. Do I have to give my name when I call the hotline?

A. You never have to give your name or identity. Callers remain completely anonymous and are provided a secret code number when you make the call. You must keep this number to check back on the progress of your tip and/or to receive your reward payment.

Q. What hours can I call the hotline (903-236-STOP) or submit a Tip ONLINE?

A. Tips can be made to the hotline or online 24-hours a day. However, following up on the progress of your phone tip is possible between 8am-5pm each weekday. Following up with an online tip is also availble via this website 24-hours a day.

Q. How much reward can I be possibly paid?

A. Crime Stoppers can pay up to $1000.00 for information that solves a felony crime by arresting the person responsible. All rewards are paid in CASH and the amount is determined by the civilian board members based on a payment chart that considers the type and seriousness of the crime, properties or contraband recovered, and the number of offenders or cases cleared.

Q. When will I get paid?

A. The board meets the first Tuesday of each month to approve the rewards. The caller is always told to check back after that date to be given instructions on where and how the reward will be paid.

Q. How do I get the money?

A. The safety and confidentiality of the tipster is our primary concern. The location and method of payment is only told to those eligible for the cash rewards.

Q. If I call Crime Stoppers and provide information will I have to testify in court?

A. Never! Crime Stopper programs are successful because you always remain anonymous. Unlike conventional police investigations where you may be asked to give your name, sign a statement or testify in court.

Q. Does my tax money pay for this program?

A. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization and is not funded by taxes. The reward account is primarily funded by court ordered payments for persons that receive probated sentences. The operational account is funded by donations and fund-raising events.

Q. Why is Crime Stoppers a successful program?

A. The three main elements that determine the success of any crime stopper program are the community, the media, and the law enforcement agencies. The Gregg County Crime Stoppers board members have worked hard to promote the program throughout the county and subsequently we have earned the trust of the citizens, media and police. With your continued support we will work together to make our community a safer place.
